As the economic conditions in the villages are bad, most of the villagers are not able to get proper medical attention. Out of that concern was born the idea of conducting medical camps in the villages where people do not have access even to primary health care centers. In 1999 we started a general medical camp with help from other organizations and over the years our efforts have grown bigger. The Lord wonderfully blessed our limited efforts and we are able to reach out to the people through Eye Camps, Dental Camps and also camps for the Physically Handicapped.
This is bringing in a new dimension to our ministry and is enhancing our effectiveness. People are being prayed for, counseled, and touched by the love and concern of Jesus Christ even as we display measures to ease their physical pain.
Eye Camps: Nearly 20 Eye Camps have been conducted in seven villages wherein 476 people were operated for Cataract and Intracular lenses. 770 spectacles were distributed in four districts.
Physically Handicapped: It is very heartening to see many people suffering from polio. Five such camps were held in four districts wherein we were able to treat people suffering from different problems. At these camps over 2000 people were treated. 315 hearing aids were given and another 106 people received artificial limbs.
Dental Camps: Health & Hygiene are non-existent in rural areas. Even worse is dental care. The villagers hardly know anything about dental care because of illiteracy and lack of knowledge about the subject. They are not even aware of basic things like brushing one’s teeth properly and taking care of it. Chewing of Tobacco and smoking marijuana is very common among them. And as a result most of them suffer from Dental problems.
It is in this context that the dental camps are being conducted and as such are proving to be a great source of blessing to the underprivileged. Through Dental Camps we were able to reach 10 interior villages in eight districts. So far 19 Dental Camps were conducted and nearly 5000 people were treated with different dental problems. We were able to do 897 extractions, 128 cavity fillings and 26 scalings. |
