If you recall the miracle of feeding the 5000, you will remember that the Lord Jesus told his disciples to feed the people. When they said it was impossible as they had only five loaves of bread and two fishes, the Lord said bring it on. He blessed it and more than 5,000 were fed that day.
Stepping Stones is a similar miracle that is taking place in the neglected villages of Andhra Pradesh. It is a simplistic idea but has been having a profound impact on the lives of the downtrodden villagers.
The idea was pit forth by one of our friends who had visited us. He has been a great source of strength and support to us in the ministry. He is also a man of compassion and is keen to help the poor rise from their poverty. He is not only interested in bringing about an economic and social transformation but also has a heart for the Great Commission.
The whole idea of stepping Stones is to help people start up small businesses, which would help them earn their livelihood. The recipients repay the amount in small installment, which is then pooled again to help others start their own businesses. This will eventually help the community at large.
This entire project started with a one time investment of US$2700 by a friend. The amount has helped start 10 businesses till date. These include: shoe shops, tea shops, rearing buffaloes, cows, grocery shops etc. The investment is as little as $ 600-800 and the pay back period is 20months.
A bank manager was so take up with the project that he wanted to give loans to the people starting businesses under the project. But the hitch is that the bank collects interest on the principal amount. The interest component is quite high, whereas we give these people interest –free loans. The amount is repayable in given time frame. Most of the recipients have been grateful to the stepping stone project as it has changed their lives for the better.
Here is and opportunity for you to invest in building up the live of people and help in the transformation of the community. It can be done one step at a time, one person at a time.
Together we can transform the communities
would you want to be one of them?
